Learn More About Tulane Medical Center CareersNew Orleans

New Orleans is a great place to live and work.

It's a city that's alive and a sensory experience. It's the clackety-clack of street cars on St. Charles Avenue. It's the seducing smell of boiled crawfish, simmering redbeans, or shrimp stuffed bell peppers in someone's oven a block away. It's a parade of celebrations and twirling umbrellas at a jazz procession. It's the joy of Mardi Gras. The puff of powdered sugar on a beignet. Many people come here to live, few intentionally leave. We hope you will join us. The neighborhoods of New Orleans have their own personalities worth exploring and considering when looking for a place to stay.

The Vieux Carre

Another name for the French Quarter. The French and Spanish influences dominate in the architecture and attitudes of this historic section of shops, restaurants and living quarters. Rentals are available at varying price and luxury levels. Limited parking.

Faubourg Marigny

Extends just beyond the French Quarter. Mostly residential. Looks like the posters you've probably seen depicting the city.

Central Business District

The most up-and-coming neighborhood. An arts haven. Ultra hip, increasingly upscale condo style living.

The Garden District

Gorgeous. Mainly residential with many upscale homes. Many cast-iron fences, brick walls and gabled roofs. Many converted rentals available too. Developed mainly between 1840 and 1900, the Garden District runs from Magazine Street to St. Charles Avenue and from Jackson Avenue to Louisiana Avenue.

Uptown (University District)

Mainly Beautiful, classically New Orleans homes and gardens. Many rentals and turnover is high because of Tulane University and Loyola University New Orleans students.

Esplanade Ridge

One of the city's largest historic districts, it extends from the Vieux Carre to Bayou St. John along Esplanade Avenue. Architecture is appealingly similar to the Lower Garden District.
